Stewart Richardson Staff Spotlight: Rose Wallis

Over the past year, we’ve been spotlighting court reporters and new staff as they join the Stewart Richardson office. This month, we decided to highlight an indispensable individual in our office, Stewart Richardson’s Chief Operating Officer Rose Wallis.

Rose brings structure, discipline, and leadership to our group,” said Tom Richardson, President of Stewart Richardson, “She sets a great example of how to live our mission statement.  People trust Rose – our clients, our reporters, and our staff.”

Rose’s journey to Stewart Richardson began when Tom Richardson was in need of a new office manager. Tom knew Rose through Sunday school.  And when the position opened, he knew he needed to contact Rose.

“There was no question whom I would contact,” Tom said, “She is one of those special people you immediately like and trust.”

Rose had no experience with court reporting but knew she needed a change and decided to take the job. It’s been seventeen years since then, and both Stewart Richardson and Rose have never looked back.

“Over these past years with Rose, I have learned that she is compassionate, yet firm; has great listening skills; is coachable; does not give up; demonstrates effective leadership; and has an undying commitment to Greek food,” said Tom.  “Personally, I can always count on her. She’s wise and can bring clarity to my 10,000-foot view ideas.”

About Rose Wallis

Rose graduated from Taylor University in Upland, IN in 2000 with a degree in communication studies. She started working at Focus on the Family’s state chapter, Indiana Family Institute upon graduating, and less than a year later she was contacted by Tom about the open Stewart Richardson job.

What do you like about working as a Stewart Richardson’s COO?

I love the variety that it provides! No two days are the same. We’re very customer-service oriented, and I love interacting with our clients as well as our reporters.

What are some of your responsibilities as COO?

I manage all five offices across the state and schedule 35 reporters on a daily basis. Juggling their calendars certainly keeps me on my toes!

What do you like most about working at Stewart Richardson & Associates?

By far, it’s the people I work with that make my job enjoyable.

Tom Richardson described you as “loyal, patient, trustworthy, principled, selfless, and grateful.”  What words would you use to describe Stewart Richardson & Associates?

Friendly, genuine, advanced and still always-improving.

What is one interesting thing about court reporting you’ve learned during your time at Stewart Richardson?

Reporters have to take the emotion out of their job. No matter what they are taking down at a deposition, they can’t react. I’m such an emotional person, and I think it would be such a challenge to keep my face impartial.

Tell us a bit about your family!

I’ve been married to my husband Ryan for 13 years.  We have two children – Phoebe, 9 and Maverick, 6 and an adorable Pomeranian named Ziki. We can often be found on the sidelines of a soccer game at Grand Park or on a basketball court every weekend.  In our free time, we love to hike at Indiana’s State Parks and go out for brunch!

What is one interesting fact about yourself?

I played the piano from 2nd grade through my senior year of high school, and now I’m enjoying hearing my 4th grader practice!

What are your favorite hobbies/activities?

I love to read, bake and spend time with my family outdoors.
